Privacy Policy

Last Updated: August 2026

Welcome to LightPress.ai ("we," "our," "us"). Your privacy is important to us, and we are committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your data when you visit our website, use our services, or interact with us in any way.

By using LightPress.ai, you agree to the terms outlined in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of our services immediately.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Personal Information

We collect personal information that you provide to us, including but not limited to:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • A secondary email address, if you provide one, used only to match store purchases to your account (it cannot be used to log in)
  • Billing details
  • Company or organization name (if applicable)
  • Account credentials (if you create an account)

1.2 Automatically Collected Information

When you use our website, we may collect:

  • IP address
  • Browser type and version
  • Device information
  • Date and time of visit
  • Pages visited
  • Interaction data (such as clicks and navigation patterns)
  • Cookies and tracking technologies

1.3 Payment Information

We use third-party payment processors to handle payments. We do not store your full payment details. However, we may receive information related to your transaction, such as:

  • Partial credit card details (last four digits)
  • Payment status
  • Billing details

1.4 Communication Data

If you contact us via email, chat, or other channels, we may collect the information you provide, including:

  • Support inquiries
  • Feedback or testimonials
  • Responses to surveys

1.5 Reading Activity

When you read a book on LightPress, we store your reading position, meaning the chapter you are in and how far through you are, so you can pick up where you left off across your devices. Your highlights, notes, and display settings are saved only in your own browser or device and are not sent to us; if you clear your browser data, they cannot be recovered.

1.6 AI Chat Data

We store the full text of your conversations with our AI assistant, including your messages and the assistant's replies, along with which book and organization the conversation relates to and when it took place. Because these are stored as written, please do not enter sensitive personal, health, or financial information into a chat.

1.7 Store and Purchase Information

Organizations sell books through their own online stores. When a purchase is made, we receive order information from that store, including the purchaser's email address and name, the order number, and the items bought, so we can grant access to the book. If a purchase is made with an email address for which there is no LightPress account, we hold that email address and name so the buyer can claim their book later.

If you are signed in to LightPress when you click through to buy, your account identifier and email address are attached to the order, which means the organization operating the store can see that the purchase came from your LightPress account.

1.8 Storefront Recommendations

Where an organization adds our recommendation assistant to its online store, we set an anonymous visitor cookie and store the questions asked and the products clicked, so we can improve recommendations and report results to that organization. We do not collect names, email addresses, or payment details from store visitors during browsing.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To Provide Services: Delivering our AI-powered solutions, maintaining your account, syncing your reading progress, granting access to books you purchase, and processing transactions.
  • To Provide AI Answers: Sending your questions, the relevant book content, and the conversation so far to our AI provider to generate a reply.
  • To Improve Our Services and Our AI: Reviewing and analyzing chat conversations, both in aggregate and by sampling individual exchanges, to measure answer quality, group common reader questions, and refine the instructions and models behind the assistant. We may use this content to develop, test, tune, and train the systems that power LightPress, using de-identified or aggregated data wherever practical.
  • To Communicate With You: Sending updates, responding to inquiries, and providing customer support.
  • For Security Purposes: Detecting fraudulent activity, preventing abuse, and enforcing our policies.
  • For Legal Compliance: Meeting regulatory requirements and responding to legal requests.
  • For Marketing Purposes: Sending promotional emails and personalized recommendations (you may opt out at any time).

If you would prefer that your conversations not be used to improve our AI beyond answering you in the moment, email us at [email protected] and we will exclude your account.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. However, we may share your data in the following situations:

  • With AI Providers: We send chat messages and book content to our third-party AI providers to generate answers and to index books so they can be searched. Book files remain stored with those providers for as long as the book is active on LightPress.
  • With Service Providers: Third-party vendors who assist with payment processing, order and store integration, email delivery, analytics, hosting, error reporting, and customer support.
  • With Your Organization: If you access LightPress through a publisher, employer, or other organization, its administrators can see your name and email address, which books you have access to, and the questions readers ask the assistant, grouped by topic and shown without names attached. They cannot see your reading position, highlights, or notes.
  • For Legal Reasons: If required by law, we may disclose information to comply with legal obligations or enforce our policies.
  • Business Transfers: In case of a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your data may be transferred to the new entity.
  • With Your Consent: We may share your information when you provide explicit consent.

4. Data Retention

We retain your personal data only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this policy. Chat conversations are kept while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward, after which we delete or de-identify them. Purchase and order records are kept for as long as you retain access to the books you have bought, and for as long afterward as we are required to keep them for tax and accounting purposes. When data is no longer needed, we securely delete or anonymize it. Please note that starting a new chat does not delete previous conversations.

5. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access: Request access to the data we hold about you.
  • Correction: Request corrections to inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data (subject to legal exceptions).
  • Objection to Processing: Restrict or object to certain data processing activities, including the use of your chats to improve our AI.
  • Data Portability: Request a copy of your data in a structured format.
  • Withdraw Consent: Opt out of marketing communications and revoke previously granted permissions.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected].

6. Security Measures

We implement reasonable security measures to protect your personal information, including:

  • Encryption of sensitive data
  • Regular security audits
  • Access controls to limit internal access to data
  • Expiring links for book files
  • Secure payment processing via third-party providers

However, no method of data transmission is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies, web beacons, and similar tracking technologies to enhance user experience. You can manage your cookie preferences through your browser settings.

  • Essential Cookies: Required for sign-in and website functionality.
  • Analytical Cookies: Help us understand user behavior and improve performance.
  • Storefront Cookies: An anonymous identifier set when an organization enables our recommendation assistant on its store, so that recommendations can be linked to later purchases.

You may opt out of non-essential cookies at any time.

8. Third-Party Links

Our website may contain links to third-party websites. We are not responsible for their privacy practices. Please review their policies before interacting with them.

9. Children's Privacy

LightPress.ai is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 years of age. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, we will take steps to delete it.

10. International Data Transfers

If you access our services from outside the United States, your data may be transferred to and processed in countries with different data protection laws. By using our services, you consent to such transfers.

11. Updates to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected with a new "Last Updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
